It's been a busy week leading up to the Christmas break. Here it is in photos... Have a great holiday!
Mrs. Remy The 5/6/7 boy's basketball debut today at Riverside. The Wolverines demonstrated that practice does pay off. They took a commanding lead from the beginning of the game and did not let up. Great works guys! Mrs. Remy Yesterday was a great day! In ten years of teaching, it was my absolute favorite field trip ever. The students and I, along with Ms. Hodgins and Mrs. C, headed into town. There, we stopped at Walmart to do some shopping. We had the pleasure of buying groceries for 28 families in PA and area who need a little boost this Christmas. We divided the shopping list, and conquered it in no time at all. There was even some time to have a little fun... After all of our shopping, we dined at McDonald's. Such a treat to be able to eat at a restaurant on a school day. A luxury a country school does not experience very often! The best part of the day was when we brought all our spoils from the shopping trip to the Calvary United Church. It was there the students had the opportunity to pack Christmas Hampers. They were able to see how far a little labour and Christmas spirit can go. The community, through the social workers of SRPSD, are able to provide a Christmas experience to twenty-eight special families. There was a lot of work and a little bit of play... Awesome work grade 5/6. It was a great day, and hopefully the start of a Holiday tradition. Mrs. Remy
The hard work of the West Central Winter Olympians paid off today. We managed to raise another $162 for Relay for Life. WAHOO! We now have officially raised over 10% of our fundraising goal! Thank you West Central staff and students for your continued support!
Mrs. Remy The West Central Winter Olympians were hard at work after school today, prepping for the hot chocolate and muffin sale tomorrow. They baked eight dozen muffins... that's 96 altogether. Thank you to all the members that were able to donate their time tonight to help make this fundraiser a success! We are working hard to collect all the donations needed to make our fundraising goal of $3500. Thank you to West Central staff and students for your generosity towards this very worthy cause. Mrs. Remy
Through their hard work and determination, the grade 5/6 students were the winners of the Golden Broom. The Golden Broom is given (by Mrs. Robertson) each week to the class who keeps their classroom the tidiest. Our class won the first quarter of the competition and this afternoon we're enjoying our reward... a movie and snacks! Mrs. Remy
Yesterday, was a sad day for the grade 5/6 class. Katniss, one of our Uromastix died. We had a class discussion about how she passed (she dug in the sand and dislodged a heavy rock) and held a brief memorial outside for her. Tomorrow we will decorate rocks in memory of Katniss. Mrs. Remy
Guest Teacher/Guest Blogger Hello, I am Ms. Delisle. I am a 3rd year student teacher from SUNTEP and I am currently in the process of doing my pre-internship. This past week, I was in Mrs. Remy's Grade 5/6 class teaching science lessons about the Moon and Moon phases. I had the students create their own Moon stories to be shared with the class. I enjoyed being out at West Central School, the students and staff members were very welcoming to their school with many hellos, welcome, smiles, and the infamous "who are you?" questions. I definitely enjoyed my week in November, and I am looking forward to the new year when I return in February and Arpil to complete my pre-internship student teaching in the Grade 5/6 class. Have a great Christmas everyone and see you all in the new year. Ms. Delisle The grade 5/6 class and myself would like to thank Ms. Delisle for joining our class for the week. We learned a lot from you. We're counting the days until your return. Mrs. Remy |
