Have you ever encountered a skill testing question when you have won a contest? It probably looked a lot like this...
6 - 4 x 2 + (3 + 4) = ?
The grade 6's are currently working towards understanding the order of operations. I bet they could tell you what the answer to the skill testing question is. Don't be afraid to ask them.
The grade 6 class has been challenged to find the numbers 1 through 100 using only four 4's and the order of operations.
The grade 6 class has been challenged to find the numbers 1 through 100 using only four 4's and the order of operations.
For example:
(4+4) ÷ (4+4) = 1
or
44 ÷ 4 + 4 = 15
The grade 6's were encouraged to challenge their parents and older siblings to help them out on this activity; so, if you're looking for good conversation over turkey dinner, help the class find an equation for one of the empty numbers.
The level of enthusiasm for this challenge has been high. I am looking forward to seeing what the students bring back from their conversations over long weekend!
