Yesterday, was a sad day for the grade 5/6 class. Katniss, one of our Uromastix died. We had a class discussion about how she passed (she dug in the sand and dislodged a heavy rock) and held a brief memorial outside for her. Tomorrow we will decorate rocks in memory of Katniss. Mrs. Remy

Guest Teacher/Guest Blogger Hello, I am Ms. Delisle. I am a 3rd year student teacher from SUNTEP and I am currently in the process of doing my pre-internship. This past week, I was in Mrs. Remy's Grade 5/6 class teaching science lessons about the Moon and Moon phases. I had the students create their own Moon stories to be shared with the class. I enjoyed being out at West Central School, the students and staff members were very welcoming to their school with many hellos, welcome, smiles, and the infamous "who are you?" questions. I definitely enjoyed my week in November, and I am looking forward to the new year when I return in February and Arpil to complete my pre-internship student teaching in the Grade 5/6 class. Have a great Christmas everyone and see you all in the new year. Ms. Delisle The grade 5/6 class and myself would like to thank Ms. Delisle for joining our class for the week. We learned a lot from you. We're counting the days until your return. Mrs. Remy The Mad Hatter Theater company transformed West Central's gym into a jungle scene this afternoon in preparation for their performance of the Jungle Book. Four former West Central students took part in this production. It was great to have them display their talents for our students. We were drawn into a tale of a young boy, lost in the jungle. We watched as Mowgli had adventures with the other jungle characters. Audience participation was encouraged and the students interacted with the actors. Thank you to the Mad Hatter Theater Company for coming out to West Central and sharing your performance with us. It was great! Mrs. Remy
There is some amazing art that is happening and I am too excited not to share. Currently, we have just finished up an art project that required multiple steps.
More images to come as they are finished. Mrs. Remy Update: Here's a sample of all the students work!
Ms. Hodgins and the students of West Central put on an amazing Remembrance Day Celebration. The words, pictures and videos they shared with the school reminded us of the importance of paying tribute to the brave men and women who have fought and who are fighting for peace. The following are some of the video clips they shared with us... In Flander's Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flander's fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, tho poppies grow In Flander's fields. ELA and Science We are beginning a new intergrated unit in Science and ELA about space. The purpose of this unit is to help your child read, discuss, write about, and appreciate information about the wonders of space. We will be learning about the solar system, planets, phases of the moon, how people explore space and the ways technology is used in space. We will also be learning to read and write explanations about what we have learned.
Here are some activities you can do to help support your child's learning:
Mrs. Remy Ever wonder what goes on at school on a Snow Day. Here's a sneak peak... Eight students, nine staff... Endless possibilities!
Have a great SNOW DAY! Mrs. Remy A friend and I are driving to Melfort right now. I am looking at the evening sky and I can see Venus! I know it's not a star because it's not twinkling!
Beautiful. Mrs. Remy |
